If you are new to this section or website then please read the Introduction to Road Riding post first.
This route should be suitable for children aged 8 and over. As always with children ability varies greatly.
This ride is best in summer with sunshine and a picnic.
Starting in the centre of Slaithwaite head down the canal towards Marsden. To do this by the book it may be necessary to obtain a permit to cycle on the towpath from British Waterways. I have not met anyone who has had a problem without a permit, but rumour has it that even as I write several families are being subjected to intensive interrogation in the bowels of Guantanamo Bay.
Leave the canal at Marsden station. Cross the railway bridge and immediately turn left following the road to the Hey Green hotel. Just after the hotel is a narrow gate with a high step. Go through this then follow the track round until you arrive at a “beach” by the stream. Endless hours of fun should follow.
